This type of part just gives out over time and must be replaced. Step 1 Pull the emergency release on the garage door so that the slide is no longer connected to the door. This will release the door so that is is being manually operated rather than by a garage door opener. The emergency release is usually a red or yellow cord. Step 2 Disassemble the mechanism holding the chain in place. Remove the nut from open end of the tension bolt. Pull the screw out of the slot. The screw is what is holding the chain on, so this will allow for the removal of the chain from the pulley bar.
