With a few easy-to-obtain tools, you can fix these minor structural flaws yourself. Widen the sidewalk or foundation crack into an inverted V-shape using a hammer and chisel in order to the make insertion of materials easier. Place the chisel about an inch deep into the crack at an inward angle and tap the top with a hammer to drive it into the crack. This process is not necessary for hairline cracks. Clean the crack of any loose particles using a broom and wire brush. Use a hose with high pressure to clear off any remaining debris, or oils and chemicals that may be on concrete foundation walls.
