When you see a chip in the concrete patio, fix it as soon as possible Step 1 Widen the crack with the hammer and chisel. The crack should be a width of 1 inch and be wider inside the crack than the top edges. Step 2 Throughly wet the crack and the area around the crack with the garden hose for at least an hour. Step 3 Clean up any excess water with the vacuum. Clean away any dust and debris with the wire brush to make sure you have a perfectly clean area to work with.
