How Do You Finish Stairs For Carpet?
Finishing a stairway for carpet is a step that must be taken in order to make sure that your stairs are prepped, clean and ready to be carpeted. The process of finishing your stairs is fairly simple and takes only a short time if done properly. Once completed you will be ready to carpet your stairway and your stairs will look better and be safer to walk on. Remove any old carpet and padding from the stairs. Carefully cut any carpet and padding off the stairs, being careful not to cut through to the floorboards and damage the wood. Pull any tack strips and remaining tacks out of the floorboards and sides of the stairway with the flat edge of a hammer. Hammer down any loose nails or rough edges. Nail down any loose treads or risers. Repaint any areas that are chipping or in need of a fresh coat of paint. Sweep the stairs and, if necessary, mop as well. Make sure your stairway is clean and ready for carpeting.
