How Do You Finish Resin After Casting?

After you make your resin pieces, the edges may be sharp or there may be imperfections on the surface. These can be removed easily with sand paper. You can also use nail files. They come in different grits and have a polishing file available at beauty supply stores. Resin pieces are then shined with carnauba wax, yes, the same wax you use for your car! Get this at any car supply store. This also hides any scratches on the surface for older pieces you’ve made. Start with the coarsest grit sand paper, 100, and sand the edges or imperfection in the bucket under water. Gradually move up grits to 180, then 320, 400 and 600. (depending on the imperfection, you can skip some grits) The final grit sand paper is 1000. This will give the piece a high polish. Buff the sanded areas with carnuaba wax for an extra shine.
