In order to ensure that the software is legitimate and to guard against the piracy of its programs, Microsoft uses what is known as a product key. When you purchase a full version of Microsoft Office 2007 or use a trial-version of Office, you must enter a 25-digit key, or password. Most often, you will be prompted to enter this key when you install the Microsoft Office Suite. If you do not enter the key, you will be allowed to start and use the program 25 times before it reverts into a “Reduced Functionality” mode.
