How do you find the number of valence electrons in an electron configuration?
Um, if you have a diagram, the valence electrons will be the number of dots on the outermost energy level, so count those. If it’s balanced, (meaning there’s no + or – in front of the element) then the number of electrons should be equal to the number of protons. So, the atomic number would also be the number of electrons. Or, still yet, on a periodic table, the line of small numbers are the electrons on each energy level, so take the last one of those. Or look at the group number, which tells how many valence electrons there are. Group one has one valence electron, etc… Sorry if I didn’t explain it well, I’m only in eighth grade…
