How do you find the mean, mode, median and range in maths?
The mean is when you add all the numbers and then divide the number with how much numbers there are. The mode is when you see which number is more then once.( It is possible to have no mode) The range is when you take the biggest number and the smallest number and subtract. The median is when you line all the numbers up from least to greatest and see which one is in the medial. It is possible to have two in medial but then you do something else.
Mean: Add all the numbers together and divide by how many there are E.G 5 1 4 6 4 = 20 20 divide 5 = 4 Mean is 4 Median: Sort all the numbers into order, lowest first and find which is in the middle E.G. 1 3 4 5 5 Mean is 4 Mode: Most common number E.G 1 3 3 4 4 4 4 5 5 6 7 8 Mode is 4 Range: Subtract the lowest number and the highest number E.
Mean – Add them all up and divide by quantity (how many there are) Median – put them in order + then either : 1. add 1 to the total amount ( ie. if there are 7 numbers you have put in order + 1 = 8 then divide by 2 and the 4th number is the median) – gcse stuff don’t worry if you don’t get it! Or – 2. count from both sides to make the middle number so that there is an equal number on both sides. If there are 2 numbers that are the median find the number between (ie. if there are 25 and 26 in the middle then the median is 25.5) Range – Take the smallest number away from the largest. Be careful sometimes the numbers aren’t in order. And the mode is the easiest – The number that appears the most time.
