A section of the Patriot Act has restricted the sale of cold products containing pseudoephedrine because of claims that the element was being used illegally to make methamphetamines. Now you have to use a government ID to buy pseudoephedrine products. Because of this, companies have started to reformulate their products to include an alternative ingredient called Phenylephrine and these medicines can be bought right off of the shelf.
