Go first to one of the city’s seven Housing Works Thrift Shops. Housing Works, which raises money for individuals affected by HIV/AIDS, also has a popular online auctions site. Locations are at 143 W. 17th St. in Chelsea, 157 E. 23rd St. in Gramercy, 306 Columbus Ave. on the Upper West Side, 202 E. 77th St. on the Upper East Side, 245 W. 10th St. in the West Village, 1730 2nd Ave. in Yorkville, and 122 Montague St. in Brooklyn. The shops carry an eclectic variety of items including women’s clothing, shoes and accessories; jewelry, artwork, books, housewares and furniture. Prices are great.
