How Do You Find Bad Sectors On A Hard Drive?
A hard drive is basically a disk spinning at great speed all of the time while information is both being read off of it and being put onto it. A section of the hard drive can develop a problem which leads to information being corrupted if used on that section. These “bad sectors” of the hard drive must be identified so that they can be circumvented in order to continue using the hard drive correctly. Both PC and Mac computers come with software that can be used to identify bad sectors on a hard drive. Once they have been used, a commercial hard drive repair program can disable the corrupted hard drive sectors from being used. Go to “Start,” “My Computer” and right-click on the icon of the hard drive that is to be checked for bad sectors. Choose “Properties” from the pop-up window.
