Converting decimal numbers and fractional numbers to percents is part of every child’s elementary school learning experience. It can seem like an overwhelming task unless, that is, you know the shortcuts. With a couple of mathematical tricks in your learning toolbox, you’ll be converting decimals and fractions to percentages faster than you can type the numbers into a calculator. Move the decimal point two places to the right: 0.75 becomes 75.00 Add a “%” sign. 75.00 becomes 75.00% You can drop the zeros if you want. 75.00% becomes 75% Divide the numerator by the denominator. For example, 4/7 is 0.571428. Move the decimal point two places to the right: 57.1428. Put a percent sign at the end: 57.1428 %. Round the answer to a reasonable number of decimal places or however many decimal places are asked for in the question. 57.1428 rounded to twodecimal places is 57.14 %.
