How Do You Fight Using Hapkido Techniques For Mixed Martial Arts?
“Hapkido has many forms. It depends what country you are in and who you study under. Traditionally in Asia, it is a combination of joint manipulations; chiropractic and acupuncture type maneuvers all based off of healing and hurting, a balance of the two. In America we seem to incorporate a little more mixed martial arts aspect including the kick and the ground work. The basic idea of Hapkido is to use our position. If the person comes at you with a slow punch, aggressive force, my idea is to take him off balance and use his force against him. Once he is off balance, I can manipulate his joint. Just by touching the pressure points I can manipulate the elbow. It looks like nothing but the idea is touch to be soft connected to the person, move from your center locking just the elbow. Notice he falls. He understands to go with it.
