Contrary to popular belief, fighting a ticket is neither expensive or time-consuming. Most people have been pulled over for traffic violations, but most of us just groan and write a check. However, traffic violations need not take a bite out of your wallet. You have reasonably good odds of winning or getting your fine reduced if you contest your ticket. The American judicial system is here for all of us–even for things as small as traffic tickets. Write down every fact you remember about getting pulled over. Include the time of day, the location, the weather, the amount of traffic on the road, whether there were schools nearby and what the officer said. If this is a speeding ticket, be sure you know how your speed was measured (radar gun, pacing or other method). Don’t trust this to your memory.
