How Do You Fertilize Weeping Willow Trees?
The weeping willow (Salix babylonica) is the quintessential shade tree. Because of its size in maturity, not everyone has the room to grow one. If you are fortunate enough to have lots of space for the weeping willow’s 45-foot-tall and -wide frame, its proper care may be a concern. Weeping willow trees are not heavy feeders, but they do require an annual application of fertilizer in the spring. Add the fertilizer, in the amount suggested on the label for your tree size, to the fertilizer spreader. Broadcast the fertilizer on the soil, beginning 6 inches away from the weeping willow’s trunk, out to 1 foot beyond the tree’s canopy. Completely surround the tree with the fertilizer. Water the fertilized area to a depth of 12 inches. This will help activate the fertilizer and spread it to the tree’s roots.
