If you love to knit, and love the look of felted knits, but own a front load washer, don’t despair! You may think it’s almost impossible to felt knits in a front load machine, but that’s not true. It will just take a bit more time and effort on your part than felting in a top load washer does, but you can do it! Read on to learn more. Make sure your knitted piece is ready to be felted, with all the loose ends tied or woven in, straps or other accessories, attached, etc. Your knitting pattern should tell you whether to felt the item in separate pieces or all put together. Place your item to felt in a nylon mesh lingerie bag or a pillow case. Set the wash temperature to “Hot,” and the load size to “Small,” with high agitation. Add the rinse-free soap, if you choose.
