We cannot point to countries who torture their enemies and condemn them if we perform torture also. We must treat enemy solders and civilians and terrorists in the same way we would want our troops and civilians treated if the situations were reversed. This does not guarantee our citizens will not be tortured or killed, but it is the only rational way to behave. We should set the example. Torture benefits nobody. Many considered the treatment of the Guantanamo Bay detainees torture, but it was not. The line between torture and pressure is very grey and wide. There are many definitions.
