I don’t think of stereotypes in particular, I look at it as most breeds have certain characteristics that have been bred INTO them for a purpose. I breed or type of dog may have shown certain traits and then humans come along and breed for that trait until most of the individuals have it. There are dogs that are bred with a strong instinct to protcet, whether it is sheep or a person or property. SOme dogs are bred to not have much of a human bond but can work great on their own. Dogs have been bred with a dire need to rescue all things from the water as in Newfoundlands. We rasied newfies and most just couldn’t abide to see anyone or thing happily swimming without needing a tug back to shore. Many of the guard type dogs have a very strong stubborn personality with big guard instincts. If you mesh that with some wacko that thinks his dog makes him macho and wants his dog big and scarey, he will make the dog that way.
