How Do You Feed Venus Flytraps & Pitcher Plants?
Venus flytraps and pitcher plants are both carnivorous plants that feed on insects and, occasionally, small frogs or lizards. They grow naturally in wet, boggy environments but are often kept as garden or houseplants. Both plants thrive in very acidic soil and should not be grown in regular potting soil. Outdoor plants require no feeding at all as they will capture their own food. Capture live bugs once or twice a week for feeding your venus flytrap or pitcher plant. The bugs can include small spiders, caterpillars, flies, crickets or slugs. Avoid leaf-eating caterpillars such as tomato worms as they can damage the plant. Purchase mealworms at your local bait and tackle shop. These tiny worms are the perfect option if you do not have a way to capture insects or during the winter months when insects are less common. Capture the live bug between the tip points of a pair of tweezers. Insert the bug into the waiting mouth of the Venus flytrap or into the trumpet, or pitcher, of the pitcher
