Towel bars are often 24, 26 or 28 inches long, while wall studs are usually on 16-inch centers, so you can’t install your towel bar directly into a stud at each end (which would be the ultimate). However installing one end into a stud and the other using a “good” wall fastener (a “Molly Bolt”) will help. Use a stud finder to find the studs in your wall and mark them. Determine where you want to position your towel bar (make sure one end is directly over a stud). Drill a pilot hole through the drywall, directly into the underlying wall stud.
