How Do You Facilitate A Brainstorming Session?
A brainstorming session is used to stimulate ideas on a specific topic by a group of people. During a brainstorming session a topic is presented and the participants have a short amount of time to freely suggest solutions or ideas. It’s important to control a brainstorming session so that it doesn’t decline into a gossip or chatting get-together. As the group gathers you will need to explain what it means to brainstorm. Explain that everyone will have a short time to express their ideas. No ideas should be criticized or ridiculed. Present the topic that the session is centered around. Have a specific amount of time allotted for ideas to be discussed. Time limits will be determined by size of group and how much time is available. Allow all participants to contribute their ideas. Look for ways to include all members of the group. This can be by calling on members or each taking a turn to respond. List ALL suggestions on a white board or large piece of paper.
