Creating archived or compressed files such as ZIP and RAR files is a great way to package, archive, and/or send files and folders. Knowing how to open some of these file formats can be difficult. With the use of a simple program, you can learn how easy it is to extract RAR files using Windows XP and Vista. WinRAR is a small program available with a trial download for use when extracting RAR files. Download a trial version of WinRAR (see link in Resources). Click the top selection from the list labeled “WinRAR 3.80.” It will say “Trial” to right hand side of that row. Select “Save File” when prompted. It will save to your default download’s location. Locate your default download location and double click “WinRAR 3.80.” Select “Run” when prompted. Select “Install” on the next page to install it in your default programs’ directory.
