A Canadian visitor’s visa allows a foreign national to live in Canada for a specific length of time. Typically, visitor’s visas are issued for a maximum stay of six months. However, if you would like to stay longer than six months in Canada, you may do so by submitting an application with Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). Nonetheless, you must request a visa extension at least 30 days before the expiration date of your visitor’s visa. The application package is comprised of Forms IMM 5551: Instruction Guide; IMM 1249: Application to Change Conditions, Extend My Stay, or Remain in Canada; IMM 5409: Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union; IMM 5476: Use of a Representative and IMM 5558: Document Checklist.
