How Do You Express A Dogs Anal Gland?
• Secure the dog in a small room. • Gather several 3-4 damp paper towels • Put on rubber gloves. • Point the dog’s rear away from you. • Lift dog’s tail, rolling it over to expose its anus. • Locate the anal glands (near anus at approximately 4 o’clock and 8 o’clock) • If the glands are full you should feel a slight bulge when pressing inward just below the anus. • Squeeze gently while holding a paper towel to absorb the foul fluid or pasty discharge. • Repeat the process until the glands are empty. • Once you are done, wash the dog’s rear end to reduce the odor. Note: if possible it is advisable to do this while bathing the dog.
