How Do You Execute The Military Step In Tap Dancing?
Military steps in tap dancing became increasingly popular during World War I, which is no surprise. There is something very rousing and patriotic about a rat-a-tat-tat tap dance to a military tune. Although military steps appeared on vaudeville long before the war, they truly became in vogue during the war years. Military steps can be done in place, or you can travel or turn. This military step is composed of nine sounds. Shuffle on your right foot. Hop up on your left foot. Flap three times–right, left, right. Do the above steps to the count of “a8, &a1, a2, a3.” Repeat, starting on the left foot. Memorize the steps: shuffle, hop, flap, flap ,flap.
