Mount Redoubt in Alaska is the latest volcano to be active. There are steps that should be taken in preparation for a volcano erupting, so that you can get to safety in time. You should have plans for this type of emergency if you are in the area of a volcano eruption. Here are some tips for evacuation. If you plan to leave: Prepare ahead of time. Store blankets, sleeping bags, case of bottled, can opener, canned food, water, first aid kit, extra shoes, sweaters, long sleeved shirts and long pants, hats, umbrella, handkerchiefs (for dust mask), goggles, battery powered radio, flashlights, some cash, extra batteries and snack foods in a box in your trunk. Gather a box of your possessions that you can grab and put into your car before you go, such as photo albums, birth certificates or other irreplaceable things. You can’t take it all, so now is a good time to decided what you will be taking and what will be left behind. Locate all bed carriers and put them where you can grab them easily
