How Do You Erricate Japanese Knotweed?

Japanese knotweed, also called “Mexican bamboo” and “Japanese bamboo,” is a perennial plant that blooms in the late summer or early fall. It grows on a thick single stem and produces white flowers during summer months. Because it reproduces and spreads so quickly it forces out other wanted plants and has been declared a noxious weed in many states. It can even grow through concrete. Japanese knotweed can be killed with herbicides in combination with tarps, but there are other less environmentally-damaging ways to rid this plant from your life. Cut the knotweed down close to the ground when it has completely dried out, either in the late fall or early winter. Dig out the knotweed roots with a gardening shovel, making sure you are getting all of the plant. Some plants are deeper and wider than others, but it is of great importance to get the entire plant(s) to prevent regrowth. Dispose of plants at your local waste facility to keep any roots from going back into the ground and sprouting
