How Do You Enjoy Texas Capitol Statuary?
Since ancient times, people have paid tribute to their leaders and heroes by erecting statues. This is certainly true in Texas. the interior and exterior of the State Capitol in Austin is dotted with statues, each illustrating what Texans hold dear. Start your tour by going in the south entrance gate and heading north onto the Capitol grounds, which is located at Congress Avenue and Eleventh Street. The first thing you’ll probably notice is the Capitol dome, which is topped by the sixteen-foot-tall Goddess of Liberty, bearing a star in one hand. When the Capitol was renovated in the 1990s, the original statue was taken down. She proved to be hideously ugly, with sharp, harsh features. The original was put in the Bob Bullock Texas History Museum, while a replacement sits atop the dome today.
