Located on the north side of Lake Mendota, this great park offers more than 400 acres of land perfect for picnicking, swimming and hiking. Winter activities are also available and allow you to enjoy the Madison area in the best possible way. Drive to Governor Nelson State Park. Take Hwy M about two miles west of State Highway 13. The entrance is located on the southeast side. This state park is day-use only, so camping is prohibited. However, from the middle of May to the end of September, facilities are available. Flush toilets and solar-heated showers are located near the beach and boat landing. Plan a picnic. Grills are provided in the picnic areas and many can be reserved for large groups.
