Crater national park is best for a day trip, its pristine blue water ringed by cliffs covered in greenery and white snow blanket is magnificent. If you want to explore this place closely with your kids then drive up is beautiful, many mountains, rugged terrain and the gorgeous trees here create a very serene ambiance. When you walk around you feel complete silence, no noise just the soothing sound of the wind blowing which make you feel like you are in heaven. There are lots of trails to go hiking but I would suggest to just drive or walk around to enjoy the scenery.
