The Java software package available for download at Sun’s Java website includes the Java Runtime Environment (JRE), a “virtual” platform that allows programs and websites written in Java to run regardless of the actual physical platform (PC, Mac or Unix). When the Java package is installed, the JRE and Java scripting capabilities may need to be enabled in Internet Explorer. On the File menu of Internet Explorer, click “Tools,” then “Internet Options.” Click the “Advanced” tab. Scroll down to the section labeled “Java (Sun).” In this section, find and check the box labeled with the prefix “JRE,” followed by a version number. Click the “Security” tab. Click “Custom Level.” Scroll down to the “Scripting” section and find the option labeled “Scripting of Java Applets.” Under this option, click the radio button next to “Enable.” Click “OK” twice to submit these changes and exit the Internet Options windows.
