Windows 2000 was the first Microsoft operating system that offered remote desktop configurations. The software was named “Terminal Services” in Windows 2000, and it is not automatically installed on the machine, unlike newer operating systems. Terminal Services is enabled by adding the component to the Windows 2000 machine. The component is added in the “Add/Remove Programs” section in the Control Panel. Click the Windows “Start” button and select “Control Panel.” Double-click the “Add/Remove Programs” icon in the Control Panel window. Click the “Configure Windows” button on the left side of the configuration window. Click the “Components” icon to open the list of Windows administrative software. Check the boxes labeled “Terminal Services” and “Terminal Services Licensing.” These components are the remote desktop software in Windows 2000. Click “OK” to confirm the installation.
