The blanket stitch, which is is quick and relatively easy to learn, can also be used as an alternative edging for fleece baby blankets, rather than tying them together. Thread your needle with either embroidery thread or yarn in the color of your choice. Knot one end. Begin the first stitch. Bring your needle through the fabric from the back to the front right at the edge of the fabric. Pull all the thread through. Complete the first stitch. Working from left to right, insert the needle about 1/4 of an inch over and 1/4 of an inch up (or however long and tall you want your stitches to be) from where the thread is currently coming up from the back.
