More and more law enforcement agencies are adopting “plain language” over using codes on the radio. This is a double-edged sword in that if you have heavy radio traffic and what used to take two words to convey a situation might now take 10 words — everyone will be talking over each other. The benefit would be that every law enforcement agency would comprehend each situation clearly as most agencies utilize a different set of codes. For now, this article will help you in the process of easily memorizing those codes. Gather the lists of codes that you’re expected to memorize i.e. Signal, 10 codes, 100 codes, phonetic alphabet etc. Determine specifically what codes you need to memorize.
