Have you ever heard of the experiment Pavlov did with his dogs. The one where whenever the dog eats he would ring a bell. Eventually whenever he rang the bell the dogs would salivate. That is essentially what we are going to apply here. Disclaimer: This technique may take a while to teach to your new puppy, but it is extremely effective. Before you bring your new puppy into your home you need to affix a small bell hanging from a wall next to a door that leads to the backyard. Once this is in place you are ready to train your puppy. The first time your puppy “goes” in the house pick the dog up immediately and take it over to the bell. Take the puppy’s paw in your hand and hit the bell with it. After about two or three weeks the puppy will ring the bell when it needs to go to the bathroom and all you will have to do is let the puppy out. Again, this method takes patience and determination.
