How Do You Dye Fibers With Kool-Aid Or Other Powdered Drink Mix?

0

Powdered drink mixes, like Kool-Aid, have uses beyond just quenching your thirst. Their bright colors are great for dyeing a variety of fibers or fabrics. An added bonus is that these dyes are easy to use with children, since they are non-toxic and not caustic. Wet fabric thoroughly. Pour powdered drink mix into a crock pot of water and stir it until the water and powder are combined. Use 1 package of mix for a lighter result, 2 for a medium result and 3 packages for a darker result. Add wet fabric to the crock pot. Ensure that the fabric is completely submerged. Set the crock pot to its highest level. Once the crock pot is steaming, reduce the heat to “simmer” or “low.” Leave the crock pot on simmer for 30 minutes. Turn off the crock pot and remove the fabric. Rinse the fabric thoroughly using water the same temperature as the water in the crock pot. Wash the fabric as usual.
