How Do You Dye Easter Eggs Using Onion Skins?
Try a natural alternative to the sometimes overly gaudy colors usually associated with dyed Ester eggs. Onion skins along with some leafy herbs for pattern imprints on the eggs will create a subtle and beautiful addition to your Easter table. Wet the onion skins as well as the eggs and then wrap each egg in the skins. Some eggs can also have the herbs pressed on the egg before wrapping in skins. Cover each egg snugly with a small cotton cloth, creating a “pouch” and secure with a rubber band Carefully drop the eggs into boiling water and boil till done, about 7 minutes. Run under cool water immediately until they are able to be handled. Unwrap the eggs and see your beautiful finished product. To protect freshness and to bring out the look, rub the egg with a small amount of vegetable oil. It will add a subtle sheen and seal the pores, retaining freshness better.
