How Do You Dry Mount Onto Foam Core?
Foam core, or foam board, is a lightweight yet stiff material popular for mounting artwork such as drawings and photographs. Foam core consists of polystyrene sandwiched between two pieces of paper. It is an inexpensive but delicate mounting option. In the dry-mount method of mounting artwork, a tissue is placed between the artwork and foam board. Heat and pressure cause the tissue to adhere to both surfaces. If you have access to a dry-mount press, follow manufacturer’s instructions for the press; otherwise, you may use a household steam iron. Score the foam core board to desired size. The board should equal the minimum dimensions of the artwork to be mounted. Optimally, score the foam core one inch larger on each side to create margins. Score the board on the other side, directly across from the original scores, using the measuring stick as a guide. Cut completely through the foam using the utility knife. Cut a piece of dry-mount tissue slightly smaller than the artwork to be mounted
