The Rim of the World Scenic Byway is located in Southern California in the San Bernardino National Forest. Beginning on State Highway 138 just west of Interstate 15, the 107-mile route follows the crest of the San Bernardino Mountains. You’ll experience glorious mountaintops, peaceful lakes and picturesque views as you travel through the forest along the byway. Make the drive in 4 hours or allow a day to experience the activities waiting along the way. Start at the Mormon Rock Fire Station. Hike a short trail to see the Mormon Rock, formed from pink sandstone. The trail is part of a path followed by Mormons traveling westward in 1851. Drive along the Cajon Pass Overlook. Use binoculars to search the cliffs for hawks, ravens and white-throated swifts. Follow the south shore of Silverwood Lake. Stop at the lake for trout fishing or hit the beach for some swimming. Picnic areas and hiking trails are also available if you want to spend time enjoying this area. Travel east on State Highway
