How Do You Drive Grand Canyon National Park?
The best way to see the Grand Canyon is to plan a trip, stay for a while and get down into this world wonder. For travelers heading somewhere else along Interstate 40, it’s worth jumping off the highway to take in the view even if you can’t stay. At it’s closest point, the south rim is 51 miles from the interstate. Exit I-40 onto Highway 64 north near Williams, Arizona if you are traveling east. If headed west, follow these directions from the bottom up. Eastbound travelers must follow this road to the park entrance. After you stop and pay the entrance fee, your first view of the Grand Canyon is only a couple miles away. Continue along Highway 64 to the first viewpoint. You are near Grand Canyon Village.
