How Do You Draw Oval Shape Graphically In Conic Section?
A conic section is the two-dimensional shape you get when you take a slice from a cone. An oval is a rectangle with rounded ends, and an ellipse is the oval-like shape that is a conic section. An ellipse is defined by taking two points and drawing around them a shape such that the sum of the lines going to each point is always equal. To draw an oval-shaped ellipse, use string and two fixed points. Visualize the conic section you are drawing by thinking of a cone. Imagine sliding a piece of paper into an imaginary cone and you get the idea. If you put it straight through, you get a circle. If you insert the paper at an angle, you get the oval shape that is called an ellipse. Place your paper on a horizontal surface that you can pin into (such as a piece of cardboard, cork board or a small bulletin board) and mark two points on the paper about 5 inches apart. Cut a piece of string about 8 inches long. Pin the ends of string to the points with the tacks. Put your pencil against the string
