Learning how to draw caricatures by hand is easy when you use a grid. The grid divides the image up into smaller sections, making it easy for anyone to draw by hand. Find a photograph of the person you want to caricature. It should be large and clear, but it doesn’t matter whether it’s black and white or color. Tape a sheet of tracing paper over the picture. Trace the major outlines of the person’s features, including the shape of the hair and head. If you have a light box, place the two pieces of paper on the box. The backlighting will make the photograph easier to see through the tracing paper. Set the photograph aside and draw a grid on top of the pencil tracing.
