Drawing a portrait is an awesome task, and when you do it in color, it is that much better! I am going to tell you how to make it look great by using colored pencils. Choosing a model to draw can range from a person to a piece of fruit, just whatever makes the artist happy. It does take time and patients to do a portrait. Quiet and stress free is also good when trying to draw. Get in an area that is well lighted with natural light, and comfortable. Use a black or gray colored pencil to start the basic layout of the drawing. The shadowing is the next thing to do, but this will have to be done again after the color is added. If you are going to do a person, draw the face with a brown or tan pencil, and fill in your details and shadowing with orange. The finishing will be a peach color done lightly all over the face.
