The Mercury Marine 4.3L engine has three variations in the manifold drain systems. One variation requires you to open valves, another requires you to remove drain plugs and the third requires you to remove one end of a drain hose attached to the exhaust manifold. All require you remove a supply hose on the front of the engine in addition to these steps, to fully drain the engine block. Place drain pans underneath the bottom of the exhaust manifolds. These pans will keep the interior of your boat’s engine compartment clean. Locate the petcock valves on the lowest part of the exhaust manifolds if they are so equipped. If there are no petcocks, then locate the brass plugs at the bottom of the exhaust manifold. Turn the petcocks counterclockwise to open them, or remove the brass plugs with the screwdriver. If your boat does not have petcocks, it may have brass plugs located on the bottom of the manifold. Remove the plugs with the screwdriver and put the brass plugs where they will not be l
