Working cows and calves can be a challenging task. But there are some things you can do to make the job less stressful for both you and the animals. Here are some tips to help you draft or sort your cows and older calves in the paddock. Prepare the animals for the actual draft. Get them used to coming into the sorting paddock on a regular basis. Feed them some shelled corn or grain and let them come into the paddock on their own. Walk around them and talk to them. Give them a chance to get used to your presence as well. Set up your paddock so that you have at least two gates that are easy to open. These gates should open into two separate pens.
