iPods are multimedia players that rely on the iTunes program to sync music files you can playback anywhere you go. While iTunes does not include features to sync the music files back on the computer, there are certainly ways you can perform this task. Downloading music from your iPod back to the iTunes program on your PC allows you to upload them on other applications or portable devices if you want. This process is made possible using a free third-party iPod ripping program. Close iTunes if you currently have it running. Download and install a free iPod ripper program such as CopyTrans (see Resources). Launch CopyTrans after it has installed. To do so, click the Windows “Start” button and click “All Programs.” Click “CopyTrans” to launch the application. Connect your iPod to the PC using the supplied USB cable.
