Downloading music from CDs to your computer is commonly known as “ripping” or “importing.” To rip or import a CD, you’ll need an audio program capable of doing it. Windows Media Player and Apple iTunes are the most popular products and they’re both free. If you don’t have either, you’ll need to download one of them before beginning. Insert your CD into your computer’s CD drive. Wait five to 10 seconds for the computer to recognize the CD. Open Windows Media Player. Access it by clicking on your start menu and selected “All programs.” Browse through the list to find the player. Click “Rip” at the top of the Windows Media Player interface. Choose your file format. For compatibility, it’s best to select “MP3” rather than “WMA” or another format. Review the songs from the CD.
