The technology was developed by Microsoft, and is only used in their Internet Explorer web browser (other browsers like Firefox and Chrome do not use ActiveX). If ActiveX controls are disabled in Internet Explorer, it will affect any online applications that require it. Internet Explorer users surfing on Facebook will run into blank content.
