How do you do the Heimlich maneuver on a pregnant women?
You never just slap a person on the back if they’re choking, first off, it won’t work and second, you can just endanger them further, third if they’re trachea is not completely obstructed (if they’re making any noise at all, they’re trachea isn’t completely obstructed), its best to let them cough and not touch them, if you slap, you run the risk of making them quickly inhale from shock and having them truly choke. You would do the normal style heimlich maneuver, but you just have to position your fists over the uterus and baby. Try to practice (obviously don’t use the pressure, but practice your positioning and extremely light motions) on her, that way you can at least get a feeling. I also wonder if you can call your local fire department and see if they can demonstrate it for you. By the way, you are an awesome husband!
