Pullbacks are sometimes referred to as pick-ups and grab-offs. The terms are used interchangeably. In this pull-back a swap, or change, is going to occur, which means that the dancer will land on her opposite foot. The pullback swap has been jazzed up with the addition of a heel drop and toe jab. Pull back on the right foot. This pullback requires that the dancer stand on the ball of her right foot. The left foot is raised and positioned slightly to the back. The dancer hops into the air and as she is airborne she does a back brush on her right foot, swiping the ball of her right foot against the floor in a back motion, and then lands on the opposite foot: the left. This is a pullback swap (or change). If this were a single pullback with no change or swap, the dancer would land on the same foot that she executes the back brush on. Dance with the knees slightly bent to help in the execution of the pullback. Drop the left heel after landing. The dancer has done the pullback (brush step)
